An overlay is an image that sits on top of your video: usually your logo in a corner, sometimes a badge or a product shot on one scene. Overlay mode puts it there, and it goes out with every export.

If your custom style has a logo, new videos already start with it in the corner the style sets, as an overlay you can move like any other. An older video shows it as Logo · from style at the top of the Overlay panel: click Make editable to turn it into an overlay.

Before you start, you need a finished video and your logo as a PNG, ideally with a transparent background. If you do not have a video yet, make your first video. Our example adds an "Acme Training" logo to a safety video.

  1. Step 1

    Switch to Overlay

Under the canvas, click Overlay or press O.

  2. Step 2

The left column switches to the Scene tab and shows Add an overlay, with three tabs of its own. Brand holds your logos, Library holds every image in your workspace, and Upload adds a new one. Open Upload, click Choose an image to upload and pick your file. It is added to your Library too, so you only upload it once.

  3. Step 3

    Find it in the panel

A file with "logo" in its name lands under Brand; other images land under Library. Use the search box to find an image in a long library.

  4. Step 4

    Place it on the frame

Click the image to place it, or drag it onto the frame where you want it. It appears with a handle at every corner and side.

  5. Step 5

    Move and resize it

Drag the image to move it and drag a corner handle to resize it. While you drag, it snaps to the corners, the middle of each edge and the centre, and a line shows what it locked to. Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) to place it freely. The small handle above it rotates it. We made our logo smaller and moved it to the empty corner at the bottom left. With the image selected, the arrow keys nudge it and Delete removes it.

  6. Step 6

    Choose where it shows

Under Selected overlay, Shows on decides the scenes. Entire video keeps it on every scene, which suits a logo. This scene keeps it on the scene you are on, which suits a product shot or a badge. Remove takes it off.

  7. Step 7

    Set the opacity

Drag Opacity down to let the video show through the image. Around 80% keeps a logo readable without drawing the eye away from the lesson. Rotation above it takes an exact angle.

  8. Step 8

    Press Done

Press Done in the bar above the canvas to keep your overlay. If you press Cancel or Esc instead, Interlace asks Discard overlay changes? before it throws anything away.
