Questions

Asked and answered

No. It times the words you paste. If you already have a recording and need subtitles from the audio, transcribe it first and paste the transcript here to get the cue timing and formatting.

Each cue gets a share of the total runtime in proportion to its word count, so a long sentence sits on screen longer than a short one. Give a total duration and we fit the script to it. Give a reading speed instead and the runtime is the word count divided by that speed.

They control where a long sentence is broken. 42 characters over two lines is the usual broadcast style and reads comfortably at 1080p. 32 characters over one line suits vertical video and small players.

Same cues, two file formats. SRT is what most video editors, LMS players and social platforms want. VTT is the format HTML5 video uses through a track element on the web. We write both from the same timings so they never drift apart.

Yes, with the burn subtitles into video tool, which is also browser only. Download the SRT here, then load it and your video there to render captions into the picture.
