Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

MP3 when it has to play on anything. M4A for Apple devices and a smaller file at the same quality. WAV for editing and transcription. FLAC to keep a lossless master in less space than WAV. OGG for games and apps that ask for Vorbis.

For speech, 64 kbps in mono or 128 kbps in stereo. For music, 192 kbps in MP3, or 128 to 192 kbps in M4A. 320 kbps only makes sense from a lossless source like WAV or FLAC.

No. Each compressed encode removes detail, and converting MP3 to WAV or FLAC only stores what is left without compressing it again. Convert once, from the best copy you have.

Up to 500 MB and three hours. WAV and FLAC outputs stop at 60 minutes, because uncompressed audio grows fast and it all has to fit in the browser tab's memory.
