How to Export a Video: MP4, SCORM 1.2, Captions and Subtitle Files
Pick the format, the resolution, captions and where it renders, then download an MP4 or a package your LMS can track.
- You need
- A finished video in Interlace
- Time
- 3 minutes, plus the render
- You end with
- An MP4, a SCORM 1.2 package or a subtitle file
Everything that leaves Interlace as a file goes through the Export menu: an MP4 for players and slide decks, a SCORM 1.2 package for your LMS, and subtitle files for any player that takes them. This guide walks through every setting in the menu.
Before you start, you need a finished video. If you do not have one yet, make your first video. Our example is a two-scene safety video, "Hazard communication policy".
Step 1
Open the Export menu
Click Export at the top right of the editor. The menu has two tabs: Export, where you set up a new file, and Last render, which keeps the files rendered on Interlace servers so you can download them again.

Step 2
Choose the format
MP4 video is a normal video file that plays anywhere. SCORM 1.2 wraps the video in a package that an LMS can launch and track. Start with MP4; steps 9 and 10 cover SCORM.

Step 3
Set the resolution and frame rate
Pick 720p or 1080p, and 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps. 1080p at 30 fps suits most screens. 2K and 4K are offered when the video itself was made at that size; the note under the row tells you the size your video was made at.

Step 4
Burn in captions
Under Captions, choose Burn in to draw the captions into the picture, so they show in every player, even ones that cannot load subtitle files. The box under it picks the caption language. If the video has translated captions, each language is listed there (see how to translate a video).
Leave it on Off for a clean picture.

Step 5
Style the captions
Click the Aa row under the language to open Caption style. Pick a look: Clean, Boxed or Outline. Then set the Position (Bottom or Top), the Size (S, M or L), the text colour and the box colour and opacity. The font is matched to the caption language. The preview on the canvas updates as you go, and Reset to Clean puts everything back.
Press the back arrow next to Caption style to return to the rest of the settings.

Step 6
Download a subtitle file
Many players and every major LMS can load captions from a file instead. Click .srt or .vtt under Subtitle file to download one. The lines are timed to the narration.

Step 7
Choose where it renders
This device builds the file in your browser and downloads it; keep the tab open until it finishes. Interlace servers builds it for you and saves it with the video, so you can close the tab and find the file later under Last render.

Step 8
Download the MP4
The button at the bottom sums up your choices, for example Download · 1080p · 30 fps · captions. Press it and the MP4 is made and downloaded.

Step 9
For your LMS: choose SCORM 1.2 and when it counts as complete
Switch Format to SCORM 1.2. A new row appears: Complete at. It decides when the LMS marks the video as done: Play starts, 80% watched or Fully watched. For compliance training, Fully watched is the safe choice.
Resolution, frame rate and captions work the same way as for an MP4.

Step 10
Download the SCORM package
Press Download SCORM package. You get a .zip file. Upload it to your LMS as a new SCORM 1.2 course or activity, and the LMS tracks who watched it and whether they finished.

What to do next
- Share it without a file. A link works for people outside your LMS. Share the video with a link, an embed or a password.
- Add languages first. Translate the video, then pick the caption language in step 4.
- Put your logo on it. Add a logo or image overlay before you export.
