3.1 MB

The MP3 is under 4% of the MP4, because the picture was almost all of the file. At 192 kbps the sound takes about 1.4 MB a minute, whatever the resolution of the video it came from.

1. Add your file. 2. Pick the output. 3. Convert in the tab. 4. Listen and download.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

A little, in theory. The sound in an MP4 is already compressed, almost always as AAC, and MP3 compresses it a second time. At 192 kbps that second pass is very hard to hear. Picking 320 kbps does not bring back what the first compression removed; it only makes a bigger file.

128 kbps for a talk, a lecture or a meeting. 192 kbps for music or anything you will listen to closely. 64 kbps is enough for speech you only need to search or transcribe. At 192 kbps an hour of audio comes to about 82 MB.

Because the picture is gone. The video stream is almost all of an MP4's size. In the worked example on this page, a 137 second, 1080p film drops from 89.1 MB to 3.1 MB.

Yes. Both save meetings as MP4 with AAC sound. Zoom can also save the audio on its own as an M4A, which the M4A to MP3 converter handles. Recordings up to 500 MB and three hours work here.
