Image quality

JPGs go in untouched and PNGs stay lossless. Best quality, biggest file.

Worked example

Measured on four 1280 by 720 JPG stills from our own videos, on A4 with a small margin.

4 JPGs

456 KB

PDF, 4 pages

458 KB

The PDF is only 2 KB bigger than the photos because each JPG went in byte for byte, with no second compression. Setting Image quality to Medium brought the same PDF down to 336 KB.

1. Add your JPGs. 2. Put them in order. 3. Pick the page size. 4. Download the PDF.

What Interlace does

Photos of a procedure make a PDF. They can also make a video.

  • Upload the written procedure as a PDF or document
  • Interlace writes the script and draws one scene for each step
  • Every scene in your logo, colours and fonts

Real Interlace output, unedited. Shown silent and sped up.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The images are read by the page and the PDF is written by pdf-lib, a JavaScript library running in your tab. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

Not here, unless you ask it to. A PDF can hold JPEG data exactly as it is, so each photo is copied in without being decoded and saved again. The pictures in the PDF are the same bytes as your files. Only the Image quality setting under More options re-encodes them.

Because the photos went in untouched. A PDF of phone photos is as heavy as the photos. To make it small enough to email, open More options and set Image quality to Medium or Small, which saves every picture again as a lighter JPEG.

No. Phones often store a portrait photo lying on its side, with a tag that says which way to turn it. Many PDF tools ignore the tag. This one reads it and stores that photo the right way up, so every page faces the way it did in your gallery.

A4 or Letter when the PDF will be printed or sent as a document, matching the paper where you are. Fit to image when it will only be read on screen: each page takes the shape of its photo, so there are no white bands around it.

Up to 100, each up to 50 MB. You can pick many at once in the file picker or drop a whole selection on the box. For more than 100, make two PDFs.
