Yes, to read it. Your browser scales the image down to at most 1600 pixels on its long side and sends it to our server, which passes it to an OpenAI model. We do not log or keep the image or the text, and OpenAI does not use API data to train its models. If an image holds data you may not share with a third party, do not use it here.

On clean printed text and screenshots it is close to word perfect: in our test every word of a short notice came back right, in 2.3 seconds. Handwriting, text on busy photos and pages shot at an angle are harder, so read the result through before you use it.
You do not pick one. The model reads the text in the language it is written in and copies it out as written, without translating it. To translate the text afterwards, use the script translator.
