Worked example

Measured on our own 18 second vertical lesson clip, saved as MP3 at 128 kbps with loudness normalised.

Source, 9:16

1.3 MB

MP3, 0:17

280 KB

Loudness went from -18.0 to -17.1 LUFS, measured with ffmpeg's ebur128 filter. Single pass normalising moves a short clip toward the -16 LUFS target rather than exactly onto it, and gets closer on longer files.

1. Add your file. 2. Pick the output. 3. Convert in the tab. 4. Listen and download.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, M4V and AVI. The tool reads the container and decodes the sound inside it, whether that is AAC, MP3, Opus, Vorbis, AC-3 or PCM. A video your browser cannot play, like most AVI files, still converts. It just shows no thumbnail.

The first one, unless you choose. Open More options and the tool lists every audio track with the language and title stored in the file. MKV films often carry several languages, and some screen recorders put the microphone and the computer's sound on separate tracks.

It measures how loud the whole clip is and brings it to -16 LUFS, the level podcast apps and most video platforms aim for. A clip recorded too quietly comes out at the same level as the next thing you play. It is a single pass, so a short clip moves toward the target rather than exactly onto it: in the worked example, an 18 second clip went from -18.0 to -17.1 LUFS.

Not here. This tool writes audio only. To change the format of the whole video, use the video converter, which keeps the picture and re-encodes the sound.
