Only the AAC sound was decoded, so the H.264 picture never had to be touched. The same holds for HEVC video from a recent iPhone.

Questions
Asked and answered
No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.
Yes. The problem on Windows is usually the HEVC video codec, not the sound. This tool ignores the picture and decodes only the AAC audio, which needs nothing extra installed. The thumbnail may stay blank if your browser cannot draw HEVC.
QuickTime screen recordings only include sound when a microphone was chosen before recording, and they never include the Mac's own audio unless you set that up. If the MOV has no audio track at all, the tool tells you instead of making an empty file.
The sound in a MOV is already AAC, and M4A is the AAC audio file Apple devices use natively. MP3 is the safer pick for Windows, car stereos, older players and upload forms that only list MP3.
Up to 500 MB and three hours. A 4K iPhone video passes 500 MB quickly, so for a long one, share a smaller copy from the Photos app or trim it first.
