WAV, 44.1 kHz stereo

4.5 MB

Seven times the size, and exactly the same sound: WAV stores what the MP3 decodes to, nothing more. The gain is a file every editor opens and that is never compressed again.

1. Add your file. 2. Pick the output. 3. Convert in the tab. 4. Listen and download.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

No. The WAV holds exactly what the MP3 decodes to, nothing more. What you get is a file that every editor opens and that is not compressed again each time you export it.

Many business phone systems ask for WAV at 8 kHz, 16 bit, mono for hold music and menu prompts. Pick 8 kHz and Mono under More options. Check your system's guide first: some want µ-law encoding instead, which this tool does not make.

A 128 kbps MP3 stores about a tenth of the data of CD quality stereo. WAV stores every sample, 1,411 kbps at 44.1 kHz stereo. Mono halves that, and a lower sample rate cuts it further.

Up to 60 minutes per file. An hour of stereo WAV is already over 600 MB, and it all has to fit in the browser tab's memory.
