Questions
Asked and answered
No. The file is read by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.
For music from a WAV, 320 kbps if size does not matter and 192 kbps if it does. For speech, 128 kbps is plenty, and 64 kbps in mono still sounds clear. Above 192 kbps the difference is hard to hear on phone speakers or earbuds.
MP3 has no bit depth and tops out at 48 kHz, so a high resolution WAV is resampled to fit. For a master you want to keep, convert to FLAC instead: lossless, and smaller than the WAV. Our 2 minute 17 second narration went from 23.1 MB as WAV to 5.7 MB as FLAC.
Yes. Title and artist stored in the WAV are written into the MP3's ID3 tag. Many WAV files carry no tags at all, in which case there is nothing to copy.
Up to 500 MB, which is about 49 minutes of CD quality stereo or about 99 minutes of mono. Everything runs in one browser tab, so a bigger file needs a desktop encoder.
