Worked example
Measured on four 1280 by 720 stills from our own videos, one each as PNG, HEIC, WebP and JPG, fit to image, small margin.
4 images
843 KB
PDF, 4 pages
1.1 MB
The PDF came out bigger than the images. A PDF cannot hold WebP, so the WebP was stored lossless, and lossless is heavy. Setting Image quality to Medium saved every image as JPEG and the same PDF fell to 337 KB.
1. Add your images. 2. Set the order. 3. Choose the pages. 4. Save the PDF.
What Interlace does
A stack of screenshots is a document. It can also be a video.
- Upload the PDF or document the screenshots explain
- Interlace writes the script, draws the scenes and adds the voice
- Export 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, and SCORM 1.2 on paid plans
Real Interlace output, unedited. Shown silent and sped up.

Questions
Asked and answered
No. The images are read by the page and the PDF is written by pdf-lib, a JavaScript library running in your tab. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.
Not as they are. A PDF stores pictures either as JPEG data or as plain pixels with lossless compression, much like a PNG. So a WebP is decoded and stored lossless, and a HEIC photo from an iPhone is decoded by libheif in your browser and stored as a high quality JPEG. The libheif decoder only downloads when you add a HEIC file.
Yes, with the default setting. PNG screenshots are stored lossless, pixel for pixel, so small text keeps hard edges. The Image quality setting under More options turns every picture into JPEG, which shrinks the file but softens text. Leave it on Keep originals for screenshots of software or slides.
With Keep originals they stay transparent in the PDF and show the white page behind them. If you pick a JPEG quality under More options, the transparent parts are filled with white, because JPEG has no transparency.
On A4 or Letter every page is the same size and each image is scaled to fit inside the margin, centred, with Auto orientation turning the page sideways for wide images. With Fit to image each page takes the size and shape of its own image.
