How to Set Transitions Between Scenes
Pick a cut, a crossfade, a wipe or a push for each scene change, set its length, or use one for the whole video.
- You need
- A video with two or more scenes
- Time
- 2 minutes
- You end with
- The cut between scenes you want
Every video starts with the transition its style comes with. You can keep it, change one scene change, or set a new one for the whole video. This guide shows where the setting lives and what each choice does.
Before you start, you need a video with at least two scenes. If you do not have one yet, make your first video. Our example is a two-scene safety video, "Hazard communication policy".
Step 1
Find the diamond between two scenes
The scene strip under the canvas shows every scene in order. Between two scenes sits a small diamond. Hover over it to see the transition it holds, for example Push left · 0.35 s, then click it.

Step 2
Read the transition panel
The Transition panel names the change it controls, here scene 1 → 2. It shows the kind, the length and a small preview of the two scenes meeting. The note under the preview tells you where the current setting comes from; ours follows the video default set by the style.

Step 3
Pick the kind
Open Kind and choose one:
- Cut switches straight to the next scene.
- Crossfade blends one scene into the next.
- Dip to background fades out to the background colour, then in.
- Wipe left, Wipe right, Wipe up and Wipe down slide an edge across the picture.
- Push left and Push right slide the new scene in and push the old one out.
For training videos, Crossfade and Cut keep attention on the content.

Step 4
Set the length
Type a length in Duration (s), in seconds, or use the arrows. Shorter feels snappier; longer feels calmer. Use the play button under the preview to replay it.

Step 5
Use one transition everywhere, or go back to the default
Apply to all boundaries copies this transition to every scene change in the video. Use video default drops your change and goes back to the style's default for this scene change.

Step 6
The same setting in the Scene tab
You can also reach it from a scene's settings. Click Scene at the top of the left column (or press P, or double-click the canvas), go to the scene with the arrows, and look under Timing for Transition in. It shows the transition into this scene, the same one the diamond before it holds.

What to do next
- Time what happens inside a scene. Use the timeline to set when each part of the picture appears.
- Change more than the cuts. Edit the video with the chat and Select.
- See it in the file. Transitions are part of every export. Export an MP4 or SCORM 1.2 package.
