Hard to tell from the source at normal viewing size.

More options
Width

The usual width for a GIF in a doc, chat or README.

Seconds, like 12.5, or minutes and seconds, like 1:05. Leave both empty for the whole video. GIF and WebP stop after 30 seconds.

Result

Worked example

Measured on our own 14 second H.264 MP4 at 1280 by 720, converted to animated WebP at 480 px and 15 frames a second.

Animated WebP

96 KB

The whole clip as a silent loop for an img tag. Flat graphics like these compress well. For busier footage, trim to the moment you need under More options.

1. Add the video. 2. Pick the moment. 3. Encode locally. 4. Download the WebP.

What Interlace does

A loop shows it. A narrated video explains it.

  • Start from one sentence, a script or a document
  • Interlace draws the scenes and adds the voice
  • Share the MP4 or embed it on your page

Real Interlace output, unedited. Shown silent and sped up.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is opened by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

WebP, wherever it is shown in a browser: full colour instead of 256, and a much smaller file for the same clip. Make a GIF when the loop has to show in email or an older app; the video to GIF tool does that.

An animated image is stored frame by frame, without the tricks a video codec uses, so long clips get very large and use a lot of memory in the tab. Use the trim under More options to pick which 30 seconds, or keep a longer clip as MP4.

480 pixels wide at 15 frames a second unless you change them under More options. That suits a product shot or an interface demo. Go up to 640 pixels for small text, down to 10 frames a second for a smaller file.

It is dropped. Animated images have no audio track.

500 MB and 10 minutes. Everything runs inside one browser tab, which has a fixed memory budget, and the encoder runs on a single thread. A rewrap takes seconds; a full re-encode runs at about real time for 720p and several times the clip length for 1080p. For anything bigger, a desktop encoder such as HandBrake is the better tool.
