21 bytes apart: only the header changed. The video and audio are the same bits as before, now in a file every upload form accepts as MP4.

1. Add the M4V. 2. Keep fast mode on. 3. Rewrap locally. 4. Download the MP4.

Questions

Asked and answered

No. The file is opened by the page and converted by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, on your own machine. There is no upload step, and closing the tab discards everything.

Often, yes, because the file is already built like an MP4. Rewrapping is the safer version of the same thing: the new file gets an MP4 header as well as the name, so a strict upload checker or an Android player accepts it.

No. Purchased and rented iTunes videos are locked with Apple's FairPlay DRM, and only Apple's apps can decode them. This page reads unprotected files, such as your own exports and HandBrake encodes.

Yes. Fast mode copies the video and audio bit for bit. Only a resize, frame rate change or trim under More options makes it re-encode.

HandBrake sometimes adds an AC3 track. The MP4 gets the first audio track, converted to AAC if it is not AAC or MP3 already, while the video is still copied untouched.

500 MB and 10 minutes. Everything runs inside one browser tab, which has a fixed memory budget, and the encoder runs on a single thread. A rewrap takes seconds; a full re-encode runs at about real time for 720p and several times the clip length for 1080p. For anything bigger, a desktop encoder such as HandBrake is the better tool.
